Charlie Eastwood is a London-based tenor who is enjoying a freelance career of both solo and ensemble singing. Having begun his singing journey as a chorister at St Paul’s Cathedral under Andrew Carwood, Charlie later trained at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance, completing a BMus in classical vocal performance and was Senior Scholar in the Chapel Choir of the Old Royal Naval College, Greenwich.

Singing

Charlie became a chorister at St Paul’s Cathedral in 2009, singing daily services as a treble and enjoying the opportunity to take part in large-scale televised events including the Diamond Jubilee celebrations of HM Queen Elizabeth II and the funeral of Baroness Thatcher. After his voice changed he became a tenor choral scholar in the parish choir of St George’s, Beckenham.

Charlie then went on to train at Trinity Laban Conservatoire gaining a BMus in classical vocal performance with Austin Gunn. He was the recipient of a Dame Susan Morden Scholarship as a Senior Scholar in the Chapel Choir of the Old Royal Naval College, Greenwich singing for both regular Mattins, Eucharists and Evensongs. Charlie also sang as both choir member and soloist with ORNC choir in BBC R3 broadcasts and concerts further afield, including Bach’s St John Passion in Northampton.

During his time at Trinity, Charlie sang as tenor soloist for a number of local choral societies: Mendelssohn’s Christus with Carshalton Choral Society, Stainer’s Crucifixion with South London Singers, Mozart’s Coronation Mass with Yateley Choral Society and Mozart’s Missa Brevis in D with All Saints Festival Choir, Orpington.

Charlie is also an experienced consort singer who has sung with the Paddington Ensemble, Platinum Consort, and Stile Antico. He has toured Italy on several occasions with Ad Parnassum, singing Renaissance consort songs, and has sung with Vox Medicea’s Sacred Music programme, performing rediscovered sacred works of Renaissance Florence. He recently co-founded the The New Eden Consort, a quartet blending well-known unaccompanied choral favourites with more recently composed works.

Charlie is a regular tenor in the quartet at St John the Baptist, Holland Park, and sings frequently at several other churches and cathedrals including Royal Hospital Chelsea, St Mary Abbots, St Etheldreda’s Ely Place, Chelsea Old Church and Chichester and Southwark Cathedrals.

Piano

Charlie is a classically-trained pianist who holds an ARSM Performance diploma in piano performance. He has performed in his own recitals, and often accompanies other singers and musicians for rehearsals, concerts and exams. He also enjoys playing jazz and is a competent improvisor. Charlie is experienced in playing keys in Musical Theatre productions, and has his own professional stage piano and MainStage set up. Recent performances include Legally Blonde, Jesus Christ Superstar, and Joseph and his Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat.

Teaching

As a BYMT licensed teacher, Charlie teaches singing and piano to a wide age range of learners both privately and in schools. Drawing on his teaching studies from his BMus course he uses a pupil-centric approach and is happy to explore classical, jazz or pop repertoire with his students. In addition to his diverse range of performance experience, his outgoing, friendly and patient approach make him a popular choice for learners.
